Using the death of a neighbor as its trigger, What to do with memories? interweaves encounters with death and absence with various image-making strategies to explore photography’s relationship with language and grief, and its role in preserving and representing the ephemeral. The text looks back at a previous work by the artist, An absent door, always open (2018, poşe, İstanbul), and reconsiders methodologies for archiving, categorizing, sorting and preserving methodologies for memories, as it meditates on the complexities of remembrance, questioning the authenticity and purpose of preserving memories.
