Open-mic event series
2025
Mike Check is a series of open-mic gatherings that invites participants to take over the stage during academic confluences. Each iteration, under a different theme, invites participants to share their preferred form of content–spoken word, singing, poem reading, letter sharing, comedy skit, powerpoint presentations, etc…–on stage.

01: On Love

Have you ever fallen in love with a pickle? Have you ever seen two rats fighting at the metro station on your way to work early in the morning, while completely heartbroken and nonfunctional? Have you ever been broken up with over an SMS? Have you ever been disgusted with your mother, while, I don’t know, they play with their hair and then realized you are the exact same way?
You are cordially invited to hop on stage and share your valuable thoughts and feelings on how to flirt, how to handle new crushes, polyamorous dilemmas, heartbreak, and making kin beyond bloodline. Share your past work on now-dusty-and-long-forgotten relationships, read out love letters you wrote or found, act out childish fights you got into with a friend, a partner, a family member, talk about how good the warmth of your dog’s poop feels in your hand after picking it up during the winter.
Let’s creep each other out.
Make it funny make it depressing show your heart break my heart
Because everybody hertz
